What Do You Need to Know About Drug Possession & Trafficking?
According to Florida law, drug trafficking involves the intentional sale, possession, purchase, manufacture, transport, delivery, or possession of a certain weight of a controlled substance. The minimum weight for trafficking differs with each drug and the penalties increase as the amount of the drug involved increases.
For example, an offense involving 28 – 200 grams of cocaine has a minimum prison sentence of 3 years and a fine of $50,000, but an offense involving more than 150 grams of cocaine may lead to life in prison without parole.
The minimum amounts of drugs for possession & trafficking include:
- 1 gram of LSD (also called acid)
- 28 grams of cocaine
- 4 grams of heroin
- 10 grams of MDMA (also called ecstasy)
- 14 grams of Methamphetamine
- 25 pounds or 300 plants of cannabis
- 14 grams of hydrocodone
- 7 grams of oxycodone
Possession and trafficking of these amounts of controlled substances will lead to convictions in Florida courts, and it is important to seek legal assistance as soon as possible to protect your rights.
